Hello from the West Coast of Scotland:
My name is David, I live in Oban Scotland with my wife and 2 boys. We moved to Scotland in 2016 from England. I am a teacher of children with complex needs in a large secondary school here in Oban. I qualified as a teacher of Physical Education in 1999 from Liverpool John Moores University and when on to complete a Masters in Educational Leadership and Management at Derby University in 2015.
My interest in the Enneagram started back in 2011 after a chance meeting with Olympian Tommie Smith (200m Gold in the 1968 Mexico Olympic Game, perhaps more famous for his raised fist on the podium in support of Human Rights issues in the U.S. at the time) but this story is for another time…
I began to read Enneagram books and grow my understanding, but I wasn’t until I used my time off during COVID in 2019-2021 that I joined on-line groups lead my Dave Tomlinson that I started to seriously use the Narrative Enneagram approach to discover more about myself and gain deeper knowledge of the whole system.
Over the next few years, I have grown my knowledge and continued to meet people who find the Enneagram to be one of the most complete psychological and spiritual tools for growing self-awareness and transformation.
This led me to join The Narrative Enneagram (TNE) School in 2024 where I trained to become a
Certified Enneagram Typing Professional (completed in January 2026) and a Certified Narrative Enneagram Teacher (completed in June 2026).
My passion now, is to use the Enneagram in Educational settings to help support adults better understand themselves and in doing so help improve their health and wellbeing, their understanding of their colleagues and students developing greater compassion and empathy as they navigate the stressful, high pressured environment of school.
I am also inspired to bring the Enneagram into our local communities, businesses, sport and leisure, health & wellbeing and mental health. I am especially drawn to our spiritual communities, where increasing compassion and empathy to allow all of humanity to flourish is desperately needed.
